Overview
Baran, the sole heir of Taltamio who had been usurped of his marquisate, was accidentally rescued at the age of eighteen by Nika, a knight of demonic-human heritage, and took refuge in the prince’s hideout. When the prince noticed that Baran had fallen in love with Nika, he made a proposition: he would grant Baran possession of Nika, but in return, Baran had to serve him. After restoring Baran’s title, the prince inserted him as a spy within the grand duke’s camp. True to the deal, Baran lived among humans like a butcher, striving to gain the archduke’s trust, and came to be known as the “Cruel Marquis.” Seven years later, a princess’s party negotiating with allied nations to cut off the grand duke’s supply lines was ambushed near the Taltamio territory on their way back. Baran rescued Nika, who had been left alone. To their surprise, Nika had lost all memories of everything that had happened since turning eighteen. Unable to resist the long-suppressed impulse of his unrequited love, Baran lied to Nika, claiming that they had been lovers.

He was born from the union of an ancient dragon, believed extinct in a southern city, and a gypsy. Due to his unique traits, he was mistakenly thought to be a hybrid with a demonic beast called a Torryu—a bipedal lizard-like beast. Bottom: Baran Taltamio (25) Though he has served loyally as a retainer of grand duke Hilben, he is in fact a marquis planted as a spy by Prince Ansalate. After being saved by Nika at a moment when he had given up on life, he comes to believe that Nika is the only reason for his existence.
